TV3’s brand new big money game show The Lie has gotten off to a positive start after increasing TV3’s Monday night 8pm to 8.30pm average slot viewing by 11.3%, reaching a total of 328,900 viewers. The Lie, filmed in the state-of-the-art TV3 Sony HD Studio in Ballymount, is the station’s first major co-production with another broadcaster and is one of a number of major entertainment shows that TV3 is bringing to the screens in 2014. The format of The Lie, an original idea from 3Studios and STV Productions, is being tipped for International success with TV3 already receiving interest from various production companies and broadcasters worldwide.

To date, Nothing to Declare has occupied The Lie time slot on TV3 and has averaged 160,100 viewers with a 9.94% share. The first episode of the new game show, which saw best friends Patrick and Catherine and lifelong pals Deirdre and Gillian from Offaly attempt to survive a nail-biting series of rounds, averaged 178,200 viewers with a 11.18% share last night, representing a slot increase of 11.3%.

In a first for Irish TV, viewers were able to play along live with The Lie last night for fun via TV3’s second screen companion app ShowPal. This proved a massive success for the companion app, as it tripled its average show activity. Just like the game show contestants, viewers were able to lock-in their own answers whilst playing against the clock. To further enhance their viewing experience viewers were also be able to see how they fared against other ShowPal users and share their results on social media.

Hosted by Jonathan McCrea, The Lie has certainly resonated with viewers. Not only have audiences at home been busy playing along but TV3 has also been inundated with calls from eager viewers who reckon they have what it takes to spot the lie! Hopefuls will need to wait however until later in the year before they’ll be able to apply for series 2.

Speaking about the positive figures, TV3’s Head of Development, Andrew Byrne said: “This is the first of many TV3 co-produced programming in 2014 and this increase in average slot viewing indicates an incredibly positive start to 3studios ambitions. We are also delighted that ShowPal was such a success with its first Live play along experience. This proves that Showpal is an excellent companion for game show formats and we are confident that it will add to the excitement of every episode of the Lie and many more newly developed TV3 shows in the future.”

The Lie airs weekly on TV3 every Monday and Friday at 8pm.
