PRESS RELEASE

TV3 gets ready to air its first major co-produced game show ‘The Lie’

The new game show, hosted by Jonathan McCrea, is a co-production with 3Studios and Scottish Television Productions (STV).

For the first time ever Irish viewers will be able to play along live with The Lie for fun via TV3’s second screen companion app ShowPal.

The Lie premieres on Monday 17th February at 8pm on TV3.

The Lie will broadcast weekly on TV3 every Monday and Friday at 8pm.

TV3 is just a week away from airing its brand new game show ‘The Lie’, which is co-produced by 3Studios and STV Productions in Scotland.

The Lie, an original idea from 3Studios and STV Productions is a general knowledge game show with a difference – there are no questions.

The Lie sees a team of two contestants attempt to survive a nail-biting series of rounds, risking an increasing amount of cash on their ability to spot the lie. In each round they are faced with a series of statements in a chosen category, from pop culture to current affairs. There will always be one lie but as they get closer to the jackpot, the number of true statements and inevitably the number of pitfalls increase. The anticipation levels rise as the rounds go by, with the lies becoming more difficult to spot. This is a game of strategy, risk-taking and intelligence to win a total cash prize of €10,000.

The new game show which was filmed in TV3’s state-of-the-art Sony HD Studio in Ballymount, will hit Irish TV screens on Monday the 17th February with the multi-award winning broadcaster and journalist Jonathan McCrea as its host. Meanwhile, comedian Susan Calman will host the Scottish version of the game show. TV3 will show ten 30 minute episodes, every Monday and Friday in a primetime 8pm slot.

The Lie is the first of a number of major shows that TV3 will bring to the screens in 2014 demonstrating the stations increased investment and commitment to home production. The format of The Lie is being tipped for International success with TV3 already receiving interest from various production companies and broadcasters worldwide.

In another first for Irish TV, viewers will be able to play along live with The Lie for fun via TV3’s second screen companion app ShowPal. Just like the game show contestants, viewers will be able to lock-in their own answers whilst playing against the clock. To further enhance their viewing experience viewers will also be able to see how they fared against other ShowPal users and share their results on social media.

Jeff Ford, TV3 Group Director of Content, said: “This is TV3 Studios’ first co-production and first venture into big entertainment game shows. We were delighted to partner with STV Productions on this project and look forward now to airing The Lie in a peak time slot from next week. The format of The Lie is fast paced and addictive – a show we hope resonates with viewers, not just in Ireland but potentially worldwide as a world class format.”

Alan Clements, Director of Content for STV Productions, said: “It is fantastic to be bringing this new format to peak time audiences on STV and TV3. This is the first opportunity we have had to work with TV3 and we are delighted with the result. This commission further strengthens STV Productions’ credentials in the entertainment genre, which currently include commissions for Catchphrase for ITV and Fake Reaction for ITV2.”

The Lie premieres on Monday 17th February at 8pm on TV3.

The Lie will broadcast weekly on TV3 every Monday and Friday at 8pm.
