TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE: Wednesday 8th January 2014

TV3 looks back at the weather that battered the country in ‘Ireland’s New Year Storms’.

TV3 chronicles the damage done by the high winds and heavy rain in Ireland.

‘Ireland’s New Year Storms’ also asks whether our climate is changing and if we are properly prepared for the new bouts of extreme weather.

Ireland’s New Year Storms airs this Thursday 9th January, at 7.30pm on TV3.

Following the recent bout of stormy weather in Ireland, TV3 chronicles the damage done by high winds and heavy rain in a special half-hour long programme to air this Thursday.

Airing tomorrow (Thursday 9th January) at 7.30pm, Ireland’s New Year Storms will recount how towns, cities and coastlines were hit by gale force winds, torrential rain and high tides. Using material gathered by TV3 News teams and citizens through social media, it will show the devastation caused to homes and businesses nationwide.

Weather experts will assess whether our climate is going through dramatic, fundamental changes and whether we are properly prepared to cope with extreme conditions.

As well as news coverage and clips, Ireland’s New Year Storm’s will feature interviews with leading weather experts, including Met Eireann, leading climatologists and TV3’s own weather presenter and storm chaser Deric Hartigan.

A keen weather watcher, Deric has been working around the clock feeding out the latest breaking storm info as it progressed. Deric even named the storm ‘Christine’ because it was so close to Christmas. With #TV3weather trending on Twitter over the weekend, Deric has become the go-to man for stormy weather updates. To check out Deric’s weather updates visit his Twitter page @deric_hartigan

Ireland’s New Year Storms airs this Thursday 9th January, at 7.30pm on TV3.
