 TV3’s Midweek shows North and South are now equal in Christmas Shopping Wars.

 

Midweek’s Michael Ryan heads north on a Christmas shopping trip in an effort to save money.

 

Heading north for your Christmas grocery shop will save you just €3.81.

 

Midweek airs Wednesday’s at 10pm on TV3.

 

TV3’s Midweek goes cross border shopping tomorrow night (Wednesday 27th November) to dispel the idea that heading up north can save you money. Midweek’s Michael Ryan compares two Christmas shopping lists. One is for Tesco in Dublin while the other is for Sainsbury’s in Newry.

 

The final bill for Tesco in Dublin, which included 25% off six bottles of wine, came to €231.34 while a replica shopping bill for Sainsburys in Newry, which included 5% off six bottles of wine, came to €227.53 – an overall price difference and saving of just €3.81.

 

Commenting on the levelling off of grocery shopping prices north and south, Midweek presenter Michael Ryan said: “This will obviously be good news to both shoppers and retailers in the Republic. With a saving of just €3.81, it’s hardly worth the effort trekking up north for the Christmas grocery shop.”  

 

The report is bound to be music to the ears of retailers in the Republic who have for many years witnessed a mass exodus of shoppers in search of a bargain.
