TV3 GROUP RELEASE

IMMEDIATE: Tuesday 26th November 2013

TV3 to make a series of

‘At Home with the Healy Raes’

TV3 is to commission a series of ‘At Home with the Healy Raes’ after Monday night’s documentary on the best known political dynasty in rural Ireland proved a massive ratings winner for the station.

‘At Home with the Healy Raes’ averaged 242,800 and reached 579,100 people in total.

This was followed by part 1 of ‘Sinn Fein: Who Are They?’ which averaged 231,300 and took an 18.2% share of Adults 15+.

Both ‘At Home with the Healy Raes’ and ‘Sinn Fein: Who Are They?’ were trending on Twitter.

At Home with the Healy Raes proved a huge hit for TV3 last night, as more than half a million people tuned in to watch a fly on the wall doc with Jackie, Michael and family. TV3 was so impressed with the outcome that it has already approached the Kerry family to do a complete series of At Home with the Healy Raes next year.

At Home with the Healy Raes was also a huge winner on Twitter, trending for hours, as viewers flocked to see Michael open up to TV3’s Ciara Doherty while eating easi-singles and mustard, and to see Jackie Healy Rae discuss his beloved horse ‘Peig’. So popular was the programme with viewers, that several people on Twitter were even suggesting it was Ireland’s answer to ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’!

And it wasn’t just the Healy Raes who were the big winners last night. TV3’s second home-grown documentary of the night, the first episode of a two part documentary called Sinn Fein: Who Are They? commanded an average audience figure of 231,300 and stole an 18.2% share of Adults 15+.

TV3 Group Director of Content, Jeff Ford said: “We are absolutely delighted at how well both our home-grown programmes were received by the Irish public, proving what we already knew, that there is an insatiable appetite for entertaining home-produced programming. We are already in discussions with the Healy Raes about creating a full series. The one programme just wasn’t enough. There is so much more of the Healy Raes to see!”

Sinn Fein: Who Are They? returns to TV3 next week with its second and final installment. In episode two, Martin Ferris opens up about his IRA past and admits he made “mistakes”. Pearse Doherty talks candidly about his leadership ambitions. TV3 investigates the party’s links with crime and asks key figures across the political divide about its ambitions for Government in the south.

The final episode of ‘Sinn Féin: Who Are They?’ airs Monday 2nd December at 10pm on TV3.
