TV3 GROUP RELEASE
IMMEDIATE: Sunday 4th August 2013
‘Challenging God’ will question the assumptions of religions and the power of religious beliefs and myths
‘Challenging God with Vincent Browne’ airs Sunday 4th August, 2013 at 11pm on TV3
Vincent Browne is available for interview on request
Presented by Vincent Browne, this brand new TV3 series explores the unproven beliefs that are treated as factual by many religions and the extremes to which some followers have taken them.
The assumptions of religions and the power of religious beliefs and myths are taken into question as Vincent Browne interrogates well- known theologians. Throughout this insightful six part series, Vincent is not afraid to tackle the controversial questions: Who made God? Was God a misogynist? Is God homophobic? Is God guilty of crimes against humanity? Was Mohammad more powerful than Jesus? Would the world be better off without religion? Can any logical person really believe in God? Why is Sex a sin?
The first episode presents the question “Did God make humans or did humans make God?”
The panellists, theologian and author James Mackey, lecturer at the Mater Dei Institute Fainche Ryan and chairman of Atheist Ireland Michael Nugent argue a number of angles from evidence found in the Bible to scientific evidence presented by anthropologists or quantum physicists.
The arguments become juxtaposed with the ‘faith’ side arguing - Because we have no evidence for why we exist, then there must be a God. While the ‘humanist’ side argue - Because we have no evidence, there must be no God.
Challenging God with Vincent Browne airs Sunday 4th August, 2013 at 11pm on TV3.
