  • Hillary Clinton praises Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta's fashion designs have been praised by Hillary Clinton for their "timeless beauty".

Oscar de la Renta has been praised for his "timeless beauty" by Hillary Clinton.

The widely-respected designer has been heralded the "ultimate" in American fashion by the former First Lady.

Hillary told fashion magazine Vogue about her feelings towards the designer.

"Oscar de la Renta is the ultimate statesman of American fashion. His name alone evokes shimmering elegance and timeless beauty that has helped define global style for generations," Hillary gushed. "He is a true American original, and I am honoured to call him my friend."

Oscar is no stranger to dressing political wives - Laura Bush and Hillary both had his frocks in heavy rotation when they were First Ladies. Hillary also wore an Oscar gown to her daughter Chelsea's 2010 wedding.

"Like so many other women the world over, I have always turned to Oscar when I needed to shine," Hillary told Vogue.

Hillary's announcement comes at an interesting time. It is currently being widely reported that Vogue editor Anna Wintour is embarking on an alleged quest to unite the worlds of fashion and politics.

It has also recently been announced that Oscar has landed himself a fashion retrospective exhibition at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum in the US.

The exhibition, entitled Oscar de la Renta: An American Icon, will open in November. Forty pieces will be on display, arranged thematically into categories such as "Impact" and "Caribbean". The range has been curated by fashion influencer and former editor-at-large for Vogue magazine André Leon Talley.
