    Brocade beauty

The runway takes inspiration from our grandmothers' closet this Autumn/Winter as old world elegance clashes with new world fashion.

From Dolce & Gabana to Jason Wu, bold brocade, luxe lace and embroidered panelling feature heavily in high end collections and stylist Rosemary McCabe tells us that this trend has finally hit the high street too.

"There's a lot of baroque influences on all the catwalk this Autumn/Winter. We're talking about opulent, decadent, very gothic looks as we are seeing velvets, dark fabrics, embellishments and gold."

And not one to let an up-to-minute look pass us by, we asked Rosemary to put together some spend thrifty looks that are guaranteed to rule our closets this season.

First, Rosemary put together a casual take on the trend.

"For our first look, we've teamed a pair of black jeans with a white shirt that has lace detail panelling at the back and a metallic bomber jacket. The bomber is definitely the show piece. It has the on trend metallic, padding and I think it would look great with denim or with a little black dress."

Next, Rosemary clashed a gold embellished cardigan with a lace dress and a white shirt that has a gold chain detail to complement the overall look.

"This gorgeous metallic cardigan is really heavy so it is perfect for those chillier days and it is only €18."

But is this look too dark for the stylish fashionista?

"No because brocade is very dark and heavy and of course, we are coming into autumn and winter. However, I do think Irish people in general struggle with wearing pastels and bright colours in spring and summer. Autumn is really a time that we can say, 'I'm going to rock the black look.'"

Next, Rosemary layers a black lace dress underneath an en vogue pencil skirt.

"This look is a little different and could be work appropriate as after all it is a pencil skirt. It's got a gorgeous gold and black pattern and we've teamed it with what looks like a black lace top but in fact it is a blck dress. So you are getting two wears for your money and doubles up your wardrobe."
