    Martin Freeman: Bilbo is pompous

    'The Hobbit's Bilbo Baggins is a much more ''pompous'' Hobbit than Frodo Baggins.

    The 'Lord of the Rings' prequel focuses on the journey of Bilbo - distant cousin to Frodo, a key character in the 'Rings' films - and Martin Freeman, who plays him, says there are a number of very distinct differences between the pair.

    He said: ''He is intrinsically more correct than Frodo, more pompous. Frodo is more open, Bilbo has to be broken like a clam. Much of the comedy comes from his correctness in facing danger for the first time.''

    Martin, 41, admits he still can't believe he's such an integral part of such a large franchise.

    He added to Empire magazine: ''There's still a part of me that still doesn't quite believe it's going to come out. Not many things you do in your life take on mythical proportions. Because of [original novel writer] Tolkien, and because of [director] Peter [Jackson] it's the most anticipated film I'm sure I'll ever do.''

    The first instalment in the three-part series, 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey', is in cinemas this December.
