Monaghan clinch win

07.03.10

Monaghan won the Division One basement battle by 1-14 to 0-16, and left Tyrone in deep trouble, still pointless after three NFL games.

Tyrone led by four points at one stage of the first half, with Tommy McGuigan, Martin Penrose, Raymond Mulgrew and Owen Mulligan hitting four points each.

But Tommy Freeman brought Monaghan level with a 32nd minute goal, before Paul Finlay's forth converted free in stoppage time sent the Farney men in with a 1-7 to 0-9 interval lead.

Conor McManus and Finlay continued to hit the target for Monaghan, with Penrose keeping the Red Hands in touch.

Monagha had attackers Stephen Gollogly and Tommy Freeman sent off on second yellow cards late in the game, but held on for a narrow win.
