Tributes have been paid to Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe who was killed after being shot outside of a credit union in Bellurgan, Jenkinstown County Louth.
The shooting took place at approximately 9.30pm on Friday (25.1.13) night while Detective Donohoe and another Detective were on escort duty outside of the Credit Union.
It is believed that four men were waiting in a car and moved to hold the staff of the Credit Union at gunpoint. Detective Donohoe, a 41-year-old father-of-two, was shot without warning as the raiders approached him.
The four men then fled the scene in the direction of Dundalk. The scene is now being examined by specialists from the Garda Forensic and Technical Bureau.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has described that shooting as an "outrageous act of cold blooded violence that has left a family without a husband and father and the Garda Siochana without a brave and valued member."
Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them at Dundalk Garda Station on 042-938840 or 1800-666111
