Two children have been killed in a road accident in Galway this afternoon.
A two year old girl and two month old baby were with their father on the hard shoulder of the N17 near the turn off for Dunmore when they were hit by a car.
Gardai say the accident happened at around 1.45pm this afternoon.
The children were both taken to University Collage Hospital Galway where they were pronounced dead.
The driver of the car and the father of the girls, who was walking with them, were also taken to hospital with injuries described as ‘not life threatening'.
The N17 is currently closed near the turnoff for Dunmore pending completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to this collision to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093-70840, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
