Cost of obesity to spiral

19.09.12

The cost of obesity to the State is set to spiral if the Government doesn't address the problem.

That is the warning from a group of medical experts, who say the problem needs to be tackled from an early age.

The economy might be shrinking but it seems our waistlines are not.

Ten years ago 18 percent of Irish adults were obese - now one quarter of us are chronically overweight.

It's a problem that's getting out of control and it's starting at an early stage.

Specialists say obesity is on the increase because we're exercising less, spending more time in our cars and sitting in front of the computer.
