Date set for Ireland, England game

12.09.12

A date has been set for a friendly international game between England and the Republic of Ireland.

The game is to be played in Wembley on Wednesday the 29th of May next year.

November 2014 has been provisional pencilled for a return fixture at the Aviva Stadium.

The two sides haven't met in a full International game since the match at Lansdown Road in 1995 which had to be abandoned because of rioting.

Plans for a rematch in subsequent years fell through.

The FAI had tried to arrange a game with England before last summer's European Championships but it was shelved when the draw for the competition brought about the possibility of the two countries facing each other in the quarter finals but an agreement has finally been reached.

The friendly on May 25 2013 will take place just 9 days before Ireland's World Cup Qualifier against the Faro Islands in Dublin.

The game will be part of the English Football Association's 150 year anniversary celebrations.
