Olympics homecoming ceremony postponed

The home-coming celebrations for Ireland's Olympians have been postponed.

A large welcoming ceremony was due to go-ahead on Monday but plans have been put on ice, as athletes intend to spend some private time with their families first.

There were plans for Ireland's Olympic heroes to parade through the streets of Dublin on an open-top bus, but Dublin City Council says it has been told the athletes want to spend some private time with their families.

Meanwhile, it's understood the Government is planning to hold a reception for the athletes sometime next week at Farmleigh House in Dublin, while President Michael D Higgins has invited members of the Olympic team to a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin next month.
