Two people have died and at least 22 others were wounded in a shooting that occurred at a block party in Toronto’s east end on Monday night.
One of the injured victims was an infant who was taken to hospital but it’s believed the injuries are not life threatening.
19 of the injured appeared to have been wounded by gunfire while three others are suspected to have been trampled in the ensuing panic.
The incident began before 11pm when what police describe as "an altercation" broke out and shots were fired into a crowd of more than 200 people.
Police officers believe more than one person fired the shots, and at least one "person of interest" is in custody.
The two killed were a teenage girl and a man in his 20s, officials said.
Police say the incident is the most serious of its kind in Toronto history.
The shooting comes just weeks after a gunman opened fire in a crowded food court at Toronto's Eaton Centre mall. One man was killed instantly, another died of his injuries days later and several bystanders were sent to the hospital.
