Victims of the Cork flooding are expected to be able to access a multimillion-euro humanitarian assistance fund.

It will provide "hardship alleviation assistance", but not full compensation to people whose houses have been damaged.

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton is due to ask the cabinet today if the humanitarian assistance fund, set up to help victims of the Dublin flooding last year, can be extended to Cork.
