Jonathan Ansell was stunned to receive twitter abuse after appearing on 'Superstar'.
The former G4 singer auditioned for the role of Jesus on the new Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber ITV show - judged by Mel C, Jason Donovan and David Grindod - but after he admitted he was skipping rehearsals for a 'Tale of Two Cities' production he had already signed up to, fans took to twitter to voice their disgust.
Jonathan - who did not make it through to the live shows - told The Sun newspaper: ''It was like an assault, I felt battered and bruised afterwards. ''It was shocking how many people targeted me with expletives. I was called all the worst names you can think of. I couldn't believe some of the things written about me.''
Writing on twitter, Jonathan added: ''I am sorry to have upset so many. The reality is that I did all I could to be fully transparent and honest throughout! Such a shame to leave.''
However, a few hours later Jonathan said he had his ''head held high'' after leaving the show.
He wrote: ''Night all....thanks for the boundless support! Means a lot tweeps.....been a hard night but I have my head held high. Sod em!@ITVSuperstar(sic)''
