Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber ''can't be dogmatic'' about the way his Jesus Christ looks.
The musical creator is on the search for a new Jesus to play the titular role in a touring version of 'Jesus Christ Superstar', and he admits while he will be strict on how they sing, he is not worried about their image.
He told The Sun newspaper: ''We have a black boy and an Arab boy. It's right across the board because they were genuinely the best candidates. I ask if there's one that fits our familiar image - white, beard, long hair, beautiful. Maybe we've got one that looks vaguely that way. Unlike, say, Maria in 'The Sound of Music', I can't be dogmatic about who should be playing the role. I can be strict about the way they sing but not the way they look.''
Andrew is heading up a panel including Dawn French and Jason Donovan to find the new Jesus in TV show 'Superstar', and Dawn recently revealed she was keen to discover a muscular hunk for the role.
Asked what her ideal candidate should have, she said: ''A splendid voice and a 26-pack - if there is such a thing! If there was, Jesus would have it. I will be looking out for someone who can blow your socks off each night. Plenty of people are very good on stage but few are remarkable. I am hoping we will find someone like that.''
