Beckham left out of Team GB

In a surprise move by Stuart Pearce, the team GB football manager has left out David Beckham.

The LA Galaxy star has made no bones about his desire to play for the GB team at the Olympics and his omission is certain to divide fans.

Each squad is allowed three over-age players and Beckham was desperate to secure one of those slots.

The former Manchester United midfielder made the 35 man shortlist but has been axed from the squad as he failed to impress the manager.

A statement released by Beckham read: “Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me, so I would have been honored to have been part of this unique Team GB squad."

"Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”

It is widely expected that Micah Richards, Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy will form the over-age trio of the squad.
