Diesel fumes cause cancer, the World Health Organisation's (WHO) cancer agency declared yesterday.

A report has reclassified diesel exhausts fumes, putting them in the same category as asbestos, arsenic and mustard gas.

The experts, who said their decision was unanimous and based on "compelling" scientific evidence, urged people across the world to reduce exposure to diesel fumes.

The report also found that exposure was associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer.
