Corrie: Rita's 'scary' kidnap scenes

28.05.12

Barbara Knox was terrified while shooting her kidnapping scenes for 'Coronation Street'.

Viewers will see the soap veteran's character Rita Sullivan taken hostage by loan shark and drug dealer Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) on her wedding day and Barbara admitted the scenes where he threatens to throw her into the canal were frightening because Greg is such a good actor.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''I was terrified - it really was very scary. There was quite a bit of rough handling and it was right at the edge of this water - it was awful.

''I was thrown about like a rag doll, almost going over into the water - it was very frightening.''

Rita's ordeal occurs after Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) stands up to evil thug Rick, threatening to throw his drugs into the canal if he doesn't stop forcing her boyfriend Tommy Duckworth (Chris Fountain) to work for him.

In retaliation, loan shark Rick kidnaps Rita on her wedding day to old friend Dennis Tanner.

Barbara added: ''I was stood there watching them doing their dialogue so when he pushed me I screamed and it was genuine. I didn't know it was going to happen - I thought he was just going to shake me.

''Greg who plays Rick was very good, he hung on to me because I was terrified.''
