Murder inquiry over Galway death

13.11.09

Gardai are to carry out door to door enquiries today as part of a murder investigation in Co Galway.

It follows the death of an elderly farmer on Wednesday.  A post mortem examination showed Finbar Fahy was beaten to death in his home, possibly during a break-in.

The body of 78-year-old Finbar Fahy was found at his home near the village of Ardrahan on Wednesday morning. The retired farmer lived alone.

A murder investigation was launched after a post mortem carried out at Galway University Hospital revealed he'd died of head injuries.

Gardaí have conducted a forensic examination of Mr. Fahy's house, and have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gort Garda station.
