King of morning time TV and well known for doing more of the daring features on Ireland AM, presenter Alan Hughes talks to TV3 Online ahead of The TV Now Awards.
Who is your favourite TV personality and why?
I know he is taking a bit of slack at the moment for his comments which is right but Jonathan Ross is great at his job and his chat show is class.
And your most loathed?
I can't watch Jeremy Kyle. I don't think it's so much him - just the show.
Have you any idea how many hours on camera you've logged up?
Over the years it must be thousands. Oh God I'm looking old.
You won back your Guinness Book of World Records title for having the fastest time to put on a duvet. Is there another title that you'd love to win?
Yes best TV male at The TV Now Awards...is that a good plug?!

I drink about 20 cups of tea a day

What is your most memorable moment on Ireland AM?
There have been so many and I've met so many great people...
What time do you start work at and have you ever not made it into the studio before the show goes on air?
We go on air at seven and yes I have slept it out a couple of times over the years but we all have
What would your perfect breakfast be?
Ah a cup of tea
Who is grumpier in the morning - Sinéad, Mark, or Aidan?

Do you ever get nervous before going on air?
I used to but now I don't we have feel so at home in studio
What is your favourite slot to cover on Ireland AM - i.e. Fashion, interviews, beauty, food, weather...or your chat with celebrity guru Noel Cunningham perhaps?
It's great doing all the glamour stuff but its also really nice to do some really interesting human interest stories.
Has the recession changed your spending habits in anyway?
Of course it has affected every one.
Have you got any style icons and do you consider yourself to be stylish?
I think Celia Holman lee is a real style icon
What's your favourite colour?
Blue. I wear it a lot.
Ireland AM is well known for bringing culinary delights to its viewers...but I'm sure not everything goes down that well that early in the morning. What is the worst thing you have ever had to eat on the show?
Ostrich at 7 in the morning.
What is the strangest thing you've ever had to do on the show?
Well a woman who did the riverdance massage live on air takes some beating.
What does being nominated for The TV Now Awards mean to you?
Well it means you are recognised for your work which is great!
If you could give the award to anyone else nominated in your category - who would you give it to and why?
Well it would have to be mark we have to keep it in the family.
How would you describe the feeling of winning best TV show for Ireland AM at the awards last year?
It was a great honour and a great I hope we can do it again this year.
